Yvonne Rempel
Fibre Artist ~ Silk Painter
About
I am a Canadian fibre artist based in Manitoba whose practice centres on silk painting, stitched surfaces, and textile based processes. My background in costuming and costume design for dance and theatre has shaped a strong awareness of movement, structure, and the relationship between form and space. Skills in sewing, tailoring, and pattern-making continue to inform both the construction and surface quality of my work.
Much of my imagery is drawn from nature, including landscape, botanical forms and human and animal presence. I am particularly interested in how texture, light, and subtle movement convey lived experience and quiet moments of transition.
Some of my current work explores the Japanese resist-dye technique of Rozome, allowing me to further investigate layered mark-making and the expressive potential of silk as both material and language.
I am actively involved in the arts community through my affiliations with Textile and Fibre Artists of Manitoba (TFAM), Fibre Art Network (FAN), Silk Painters International (SPIN), and The Batik Guild. I serve on the executive of TFAM and my artwork is currently featured in travelling exhibitions with TFAM and FAN.
